paramount coffee project la…

on a quite wednesday, i ventured over to the fairfax district towards the newly opened paramount coffee project la. a much awaited arrival to this aussie colab between mark dundon, russell beard, & ping jin ng. Aside from the exceptional drinks, the design will impress you every step of the way. the space is long yet inviting & you feel the warmth amidst the concrete details & hanging vines. i was immediately welcomed by a caring staff that poured a signature creamy flat white, but pair this with the ruby tea (hints of gin-like juniper!). i will certainly add this place to my go-to coffee list –  m.

tortas condesa in seattle…

my love for seattle has only grown stronger & i’m incredibly impressed with the food scene here. the second time around (i’ve been here twice in one year!), I hit up a local for their favorite new spots & monica dimas’s, tortas condesa came up high on the list. it was one of my last meals, of a 4-day seattle trip. so i trekked up to the beautiful capital hill neighborhood where this bright, sunny stand calls home. first thing you’ll notice is the smell. chorizo & grilled onions fill the sleepy street & hungry people poke their heads into the walk-up counter to order up. i order two amazing stuffed tortas: chorizo & pulled pork & they didn’t disappoint. with a bottled coke in hand & chomps of jalapeños, i quickly inhale them & sit wishing for more. the flavors were nostalgic & instantly felt like homemade goodness. the familiar tastes of a true mexican torta from a street stand or that your mom would pack for lunch. throughout my whole trip, i found myself drawn into seattle. not only from the kindness of people, but the care & pride in their food. it was in that moment after i ate those tortas that i thought, “i could live here”. monica dimas, you nailed this flavor. – m.

elm coffee roasters…

my love & respect for coffee culture hasn’t wavered. i’ve recently decided that if i’m visiting a city, that i will bring back some locally roasted coffee from a shop. it’s an easy keepsake, that packs well & that i can enjoy for weeks, while i remember facets of my trip. for my second time in seattle, i had a chance to swing by pioneer square & visit elm coffee roasters. it was an airy space, in a gorgeous old building with room for a roaster, taking center stage. the wood work & the thoughtfully designed space lends itself to the amazing light that creeps in from the street windows. i think i’m most drawn to coffee shops with minimal design & the least amount of distractions. yes, the “bells & whistles” are great, but if i’m going out of my way to visit a shop, i want the focus on the coffee & the service. much like la, there is no shortage of coffee shops, but this one was high on my list to experience. the staff were so inviting & my drink was expertly crafted, but i enjoyed the sounds of people hanging out “talking shop”. the customers were gathered near the bar with the staff asking questions. i’ve learned to appreciate this mini education everywhere i go. i want & look forward to the crew telling me what i should try & what they are most proud of. as someone who works in the service industry myself, i’m always impressed with the level of excitement & pride each shop has. if you’re near pioneer square, pay this place a visit!

Sipp Curated Goods…

My love for coffee culture hasn’t wavered & I been quietly working on a pet project, Sipp Curated Goods. A place where I could selfishly curate my favorite coffee related gifts, goodies, & art.

In the last few years, coffee culture has grown into a full force of talented people & community driven by the same love of one drink. Its crazy.

I never thought about how much that ritual gets my day going. My day doesn’t start without it. Then one day it hit me, “I really love this hobby”. My day job consists of making things beautiful & searching for cool, beautiful pieces. So this was just a natural progression. A small place of my own where I could be creative & share the humor & creativity that this small drink brings out in folks. Here we go, ready or not…
